AFCON 2023: Why Jean-Louis Gasset won’t get a medal with Ivory Coast.

In 2023, the French coach Jean-Louis Gasset will not receive a medal for the success of Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions department has stated that Gasset will not be able to add more coaching accomplishments to his resume due to the mutual termination of his contract during the group stage.

Gasset guided the Elephants to victory in the domestic championship, but he was eliminated after the group stage owing to subpar play.

With three points from three games, the Elephants finished third in Group A under the 70-year-old's leadership. He led them to a run of two wins and two losses.
After Ivory Coast's final group match on January 22 ended in a humiliating 4-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea, the Ivorian Football Federation dissolved their relationship with Gasset.

Emerse Fae, his assistant, took his place and is currently leading the Elephants into the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final.

In the final on Sunday, Ivory Coast will take on Nigeria; a victory or a defeat in front of home supporters in Abidjan will guarantee medals for Fae's team.

After a goalless draw at the end of extra time, the Elephants overcame Ghana 9–8 on penalties in the 2015 AFCON final.
